The Commercial Appeal posted “Silo Square in Southaven: What restaurants, businesses are open or planned at development?” featuring Tekila Modern Mexican.
The COVID-19 pandemic has barely slowed down the Silo Square development in Southaven, with new businesses opening and even more in the works.
Ground was broken in April 2018 on the project, which is located south of Goodman Road, west of Getwell and east of Tchulahoma. When complete, the $200 million development will include hotels, apartments, houses, retail shops, restaurants and more.
Developer Brian Hill said the project should give Southaven a town square feel, similar to the Collierville Town Square.
“Other than a one-month period when COVID first started, we haven’t been able to keep up,” he said.
Here are five things to know about the Silo Square project.
What businesses are open at Silo Square?
Currently, Silo Square has four key buildings — out of 13 in the “town square” — with businesses inside open for customers. Two more buildings are planned to open in the next two months, Hill said.
Slim Chickens was the first business to open at Silo Square, welcoming its first customers in July 2019.
Since then, City Hall Cheesecake, lifestyle store Magnolia House, Custom Jewelry, Posh Nails + Aesthetics, Salon Haven, Ultimate Gifts and Silo Square Real Estate have opened.
Although construction is underway daily at the site, people are eager to shop at the stores.
“As soon as everybody started peeking back outside, I mean, this place has just been insane,” Hill said.
What businesses are coming to Silo Square?
Several more retail stores and businesses are expected to open or begin construction by the end of 2021. These include Bank3, Planters Bank, exercise program HotWorx, boutiques SoCo, Stella Ivy and Sugar & Honey, and Silo Square Dental.
Hill said residents around Silo Square are excited for more shops in Southaven and continuously ask what’s next.
What restaurants are at Silo Square?
Along with the retail shops, a string of restaurants is planned for the development with five under contract and two already in business.
Currently, City Hall Cheesecake and Slim Chickens are open. High-end Mexican restaurant Tekila and Staks Pancake Kitchen are both under construction and expected to open this year. Southern-style restaurant Georgia Blue also will open a location at Silo Square.
More restaurants are under contract at the site, but Hill said he could not disclose the names yet.
What hotels will open at Silo Square?
The Silo Square plan calls for two hotels on-site, and one is already in the works.
The Fairfield By Marriott went under contract in February and will begin construction in about four months.
It will take about a year to build the four-story hotel, Hill said.
Fairfield’s owner also has another hotel site in Silo Square under contract, but no agreements have been made yet. Hill said he could not discuss that project further.
Where can I live at Silo Square?
Houses and apartments are filling up at Silo Square, and 125,000 square feet of loft apartments and more homes are “right around the corner” from beginning construction this year, Hill said.
About 455 houses are planned for the development, with about 40 being built now, Hill said.
“We also have about 30 people on the waiting list for lots and the sections that we’re developing right now,” he said.
Residents began moving into the single-family homes last spring and now between 30-40 houses are occupied.
By the end of the year, Hill anticipates 90 homes total homes will be built and ready for living.
A pedestrian bridge equipped with an elevator linking Silo Square to Snowden Grove Park will also be ready by the fall, Hill said.
